Saxer Lücke & Zwinglipasshütte – One-Day Hike in the Swiss Alps

If you are someone who loves nature and an active way of spending your free time, and you are thinking about a one-day hike in the Alps, Saxer Lücke Pass will definitely appeal to you. It is one of the most scenic trails in the Alpstein range, offering breathtaking views of the limestone peaks of Kreuzberge.

To jedna z najbardziej malowniczych tras w paśmie Alpstein, z rozpościerającym się widokiem na wapienne turnie Kreuzberge.

For those traveling by car, I recommend leaving your vehicle at the Brülisau parking lot, where a 12-hour stay costs 5 CHF or 5 EUR. From there, you can take the cable car (40 CHF for a round trip or 28 CHF one way) straight up to the Hoher Kasten summit (1,794 m / 5,886 ft). There is a restaurant at the top, as well as the starting point of the trail leading through Staubern (1,751 m / 5,745 ft) to Saxer Lücke (1,649 m / 5,411 ft). On this route, the return hike follows the same trail, but the views more than make up for the effort.

For those who prefer to hike on their own, have a full day available, good physical condition, trekking poles, and no fear of sore muscles, I recommend a longer, exceptionally scenic route:

Brülisau parking (922 m / 3,025 ft) → Plattenbödeli (1,279 m / 4,196 ft) → Bollenwees (1,471 m / 4,826 ft) → Zwinglipass (1,999 m / 6,556 ft) → Saxer Lücke → Bollenwees or Staubern (1,751 m / 5,745 ft) → Plattenbödeli (1,279 m / 4,196 ft) → Brülisau parking (922 m / 3,025 ft)

The hike starts quite gently – walking along the valley, passing alpine cheese huts and farms. Then comes the climb to Plattenbödeli, where in about an hour you will gain over 300 meters (984 ft) in elevation.

Zaczynamy dosyć niewinnie – idziemy wzdłuż doliny, mijając alpejskie chatki serowe i gospodarstwa. Następnie czeka nas podejście do Plattenbödeli, gdzie w ciągu około godziny pokonujemy ponad 300 metrów w górę.

Next, after gaining just under 200 meters (656 ft) in elevation and passing Sämtisersee on the left, we reach Bollenwees. Here, you can sit down with your own packed lunch by another lake – Fählensee – or take advantage of the mountain hut and restaurant facilities.

Następnie, po pokonaniu niecałych 200 metrów przewyższenia i mijając po lewej stronie jezioro Sämtisersee, docieramy do Bollenwees. Tutaj można usiąść z własnym prowiantem nad kolejnym jeziorem – Fählensee – albo skorzystać z oferty schroniska i restauracji.

At this point, the trails diverge. Taking the steep path visible just beyond the hut, after about 35 minutes of hiking, we reach Saxer Lücke Pass. Alternatively, by following the right side of Fählensee, we can head towards Zwinglipass, from where breathtaking views of the limestone peaks of Kreuzberge unfold. There is also a restaurant and the Zwinglipasshütte mountain hut at this location

W tym miejscu szlaki się rozchodzą. Stromym podejściem, widocznym tuż za schroniskiem, po około 35 minutach marszu docieramy do przełęczy Saxer Lücke. Natomiast idąc prawą stroną jeziora Fählensee możemy udać się w kierunku Zwinglipass, skąd roztacza się niesamowity widok na wapienne turnie Kreuzberge. Tam również znajduje się restauracja i schronisko Zwinglipasshütte.

Feeling like you’re on a movie set, with the wind in your hair, walking along the beautiful, green Roslenalp ridge towards Saxer Lücke, you are surrounded by the sheer cliffs of Kreuzberge.

Czując się jak na planie filmowym, z wiatrem we włosach, idąc po pięknym, zielonym grzbiecie Roslenalp w stronę Saxer Lücke, jesteśmy otoczeni pionowymi ścianami Kreuzberge.

For me, the descent is always physically more demanding than the ascent and puts a lot of strain on the knees. Additionally, the trails running along nearly vertical mountain walls add character to the route. Fortunately, on some sections – practically all the way to Saxer Lücke – metal cables are attached to the rocks, making the descent easier and providing reassurance.

Dla mnie zejście jest zawsze fizycznie bardziej wymagające niż wejście i mocno obciąża kolana. Dodatkowo ścieżki prowadzące przez niemal pionowe ściany gór dodają trasie charakteru. Na szczęście na niektórych odcinkach, praktycznie aż do Saxer Lücke, do skał przymocowane są metalowe linki, które ułatwiają zejście i dodają otuchy.
